Mother always said I had the inquisitiveness of an explorer.
Once I tried to insert a pencil through the ear to find where it would land.
On another I was curious to feel the crunch of glass in my mouth.
And then … figure out whether I could walk with both feet tied together with a rope.
Every narrow escape made me bolder.
Till the day I tried to hammer down the bronze orb up the double slide in the children’s park to see what’s inside.
The guards actually thought I was detrimental to humanity!!!
Just imagine!!

Absolutely… Somewhere a child’s curiosity needs to be curbed or channelised

Geeta, your story made me both laugh and cringe. This is the kind of kid that I used to have to monitor in my old job.

Dear Lisa,
I love your response.
Children are not necessarily mischievous or monstrous but their indomitable curiosity sometimes goes out of bounds.
I see many parents who either take this out of bounds curiosity lightly or are at a complete loss to manage it.

Brilliant take on childhood curiosity run amok. The progression is perfect. from trying to thread a pencil through your ear to assaulting playground equipment. And the ending line about guards thinking you’re detrimental to humanity is just chef’s kiss. That deadpan “Just imagine!!” perfectly captures the bewilderment of someone who thought they were conducting serious research. Really well done. 😄

This kind of funny, especially about the pencil and the “detrimental to humanity. “🤭

Hide the knives. That’s why they make those outlet guards and kid gates. Though, I will admit to getting a mint leaf stuck up my nose when I was three. At least, it smelled good.

Yes, you are absolutely correct. All things destructive are out away as kids start growing. The mint experiment was classic. I am sure it must have unlocked a floodgate of vivid imaginations.
