Them
When the Government decided to construct the Office Building ‘objection‘ was raised from the most unexpected quarters – the dead.
It was an unauthorised graveyard.
But the buried considered it their own.
So, it took more time than planned.
A wall in shambles.
A broken window.
A door unhinged.
Cause unknown.
Yet the Building got completed.
Offices opened.
But the protest continued.
In due course, traffic exploded.
Gadgets got installed.
Professionals came to rule.
They questioned…
But the oldtimers?
They shook their heads and swore by them.
You see they had seen what the others had not.

The flash fiction is based on the legendary tales surrounding our Office.
A few graves are still there. Legend has it that these could not be removed.

And you actually worked there!!

Amusingly mysterious. Did you ever encounter anything “unexplained”?

Dear Geeta,
I have to say the government doesn’t have a ghost of a chance. Good one.

Great story – made even greater in that it’s true! I have some understanding I once worked in a building that had been an ancient jail, attached to an old courthouse – it was a conserved building, so some of the rooms still had the old thick studded doors, there was one room that I refused to go into – very spooky!

Disrespect for the dead, and disrespect for the living, how true for far too many governemnt offices. What an interesting story.

Not quite the view one wants from an office window but looking at it gives one time to reflect and think about ones own life, and what one has achieved and can strive further. Maybe lost connections to be renewed . . . . .who knows what would go thru a person’s mind.
