At last the jinx was over and the streets were awash with rain
This year summer was scorching. Sun blazed down with an uncompromising fierceness. Birds vanished. Strays looked for shadowy shelters which were not to be found. Trees withered. Plants placed in shades burnt to a shade of brown. Monsoon was delayed.
And when it came it bypassed our block. Everyday the overcast sky made us wish for a torrential downpour. But it never happened. We were told it rained in the neighbouring localities but not in ours. The sky rumbled and grumbled indicating that it was raining somewhere nearby but not here. It was frustrating to say the least.
Humidity went up to 80%-90%. The air conditioning stopped working. Perspiration dehydrated us increasing water consumption. But the taps were dry as water level kept on going down.
Nature was at its angriest mood. Having nothing to put the blame on we cursed ourselves. We were so sinful that Nature’s wrath had befallen us. And all we sinners lived in the same block. We had noone to accuse but ourselves.
And then it happened one fine morning as unexpectedly as ever. Just as we were coming out of our yoga class we saw the trees, now a velvety green, swaying with glee. The sound of rain beats on the asphalt made our hearts soar. We sighed in relief.
The curse was over. It was raining!!!! Drenching the trees, roads, streets, houses, clothes on the clotheslines!!! We did not wait for it to stop. We walked back home wet in the rains.
Truly, there is something in the rains which makes you hum and sing, dance and swirl, trip and twirl. There is something in the rains which makes you love life with all its idiyosincracies.
Birds came back. Strays rejoiced. Plants smiled with dimples of droplets on their cheeks. So what if the clothes took time to dry. Puddles became of potholes. The supplies got delayed. Rinky came back from her walks muddy and dirty. Mother suffered bouts of sneezing. And all the aches and pains of my aging body returned with the moist air.
At least it rained.

Well written and enjoyed reading. I can resonate with you fully..

Ah, the glorious rain finally arrived! Streets drenched, spirits lifted, and nature revived.
Despite the muddy chaos and lingering aches, the simple joy of rain made everything worthwhile.
But the lovely video showed no rains instead stressed that it’s not the quantity of rain but the quality of leaf celebration that counts! 😂🤣

The whole planet is experiencing extreme weather–too hot, too cold, too dry, too rainy, too windy . . .

Yes, that’s true and there are various scientific explanations for that.

cooled everything down, everything changes, the air, temperature, smell in the air, sound of the rain, pitter pattering on a window pane, soothing, relaxing.

Extreme weather conditions have become the norm now. Kerala is experiencing terrors because of this phenomenon.

It is like that everywhere in India and the world. Dubai got hit by floods. Mumbai is again almost at par with sea level.
