What’s the funniest misunderstanding you’ve ever been part of?

Me and my sister were born seven years apart. But being of similar facial structure , build, height and weight we were often confused as twins. Seen together we did not need a formal introduction as it was quite obvious that we were sisters though at times people did ask whether we were twins but when we visited the same place separately that was when funny anecdotes happened.

Once my sister went to one of the local markets to buy vegetables. When she asked for coriander leaves the surprised vegetable seller said, “Why, you’ve just bought a bunch. How many more do you require?” My sister knew immediately that I had visited the same vegetable seller a little while ago. 😊

Another incident….When I went for a hair cut the parlour lady smiled and greeted, ” Oh! This time you have come early.”  I was always late for a cut and to think that I had come early meant my sister must have visited her not so long ago. I confirmed with my sister and you know what my guess proved to be correct. 😁

But the greatest embarrassment would be when I had to go anywhere with my brother-in-law while my sister stayed back. I had to invariably explain that I was not my sister but ‘the sister-in-law’. Repeated awkward incidents like this made me avoid going out with my B-I-L. But then there were certain situations which were unavoidable. Even recently a remark by  someone made it quite clear that I was being confused for my sister. 😳

After a while as I gained weight and my sister made a conscious effort to reduce, the difference between us could be discerned but even then confusion remained as most people thought I was the elder one when it was the other way round. 😂

Now again we look alike because I have lost a lot of weight. We both have similar hair styles. But since most of the time we travel together I guess the confusion is a little less from our interactions. She naturally bosses over me and I mostly comply. 😊

I want to see your twins.🤭 It’s funny to hear like that, and some occasions feel awkward indeed. Sometimes, me and my sisters have been asked like that too even if we have a different face obviously.🤩 Maybe the bloodline is clearly seen on our appearances.

My son and daughter, 22 months apart, weren’t mistaken for twins, but when they were toddler/baby age, they both had honey blonde curly hair.

I didn’t want to trim my son’s curly locks because he looked so cute, but being told how gorgeous my two girls were nudged me to get his hair tidied up. Fun times! Now, they are beautiful 32- and 34-year-olds. And their curly blond locks have taken on different styles, but always gorgeous!

    Great post!

  12. How very sweet that you and your sister look as much alike as twins, Geeta. I have a sister who also looks like me, and we are two years apart to the day. We often say we are twins two years apart.
