This is in response to Sadje’s Weekly Photo Prompts on #Whatdoyousee

The boat swayed with

The gentle breeze

The waves mirrored the sun

The bird sitting on the tree

Chirped merrily along

“O sailor! Never say goodbye

We’ll soon meet again

You on some other shore

Me on some other sky

Be it autumn or maybe spring

Time will tell where

You may need paper and ink

I need my chirpy cheer

You have your boat

You have your waves

You have your breeze

You have your lores

I have merely puny strength

And a pair of wings to dare

O sailor ! Do not despair

We have our vows to adhere”

  5. Beautifully written, 🌿
“You on some other shore, me on some other sky” is such a tender and hopeful line. The sailor and the bird feel like symbols of faith and reunion beyond distance.
    So serene and uplifting. 💙

  6. Geeta Ji,🙏🏻
Your poem feels light on the surface, yet carries a quiet undertone of longing and resilience.
The dialogue between sailor and bird is beautifully symbolic, earth and sky, journey and freedom, ink and song. I especially love:
    “You on some other shore
    Me on some other sky”
There’s both separation and promise in those lines.
The refrain, “O sailor! Do not despair” gently anchors the piece in hope. Simple, lyrical, and softly uplifting , it reads like a breeze that carries reassurance without forcing it.

Thank you so much Vijayji. Your immersive reading and explanation is humbling for me as a poet. For the sailor, the human, is endowed with so many gifts – the ink, the boat, the waves , the breeze – Nature as well as human inventions but the bird has only its puny strength and a pair of wings. Then who is stronger – man or God’s creation?
