The road trip to Digha was meticulously planned.
A week’s stay.
The Resort we put up in was close to the sea. We could see it from the balcony and at night go off to sleep listening to it.
It was startling how endless hours passed by watching the waves kiss the shore and then run back to woo the horizon.
It was love at first sight with the blue expanse.
And you.
When it was time to leave I knew the bond was forever.
With the sea.
But
With you… it was not to be.

You can read the other stories here.
Trivia : Described as the Brighton of the East by Warren Hastings in one of his 1780 letters to his wife, Digha is the most visited sea resort/holiday destination in West Bengal.

So soft and sad at the same time.
The sea stayed loyal.
The person didn’t.
That contrast quietly hits the heart.
Thanks, GC, for letting me know about Digha resort.

Yes. It used to be very peaceful and beautiful around four and half decades back.

I can understand, how things have worsened over the years. Must be overpopulation and human greed. Old times are golden times!

Nicely reflective. The sea does that.

great ending – ha!
and you described the way I feel about Destin, FL – a soothing beach to me – and not all beaches are….
The third sentence has a nice assonance with the long ee sound, “sea, see, sleep.”

That ending was a sucker punch after being lulled into a false sense of security by the lyricism. Well done!

The ending certainly crept up on me with unexpected pathos.
Beach holidays can be really dangerous for relationships as well as creating them.
