What would you do if you lost all your possessions?

One sentence response to the prompt is : I will be very happy.

Lately I have found management of worldly stuff and affairs very tiresome. I guess a stage comes in life when you realise you can do with so little.

I could have done with less but I kept on hoarding like a magpie and now I find my possessions burdensome.

Having said that I also realise that it will not be very practical to throw away everything I have because I still need the basics in life, perhaps, a little more than the basics.

Since I am conditioned to live in a materialistic society, life of a destitute, probably at my age, will not be a state I can get accustomed with.

So here is the dichotomy. I am not interested in material considerations of life anymore but I am also not prepared to renounce everything in one go.

So where does it take me? Are these the signs of old age? Well, I am not talking about the number of years that I have spent or going to spend in this earthly abode but the psyche one tends to develop subconsciously realising it’s the last leg of the journey.

Here I am in a tug of war between a sense of  detachment gradually setting in and the lifestyle I am habituated to live in. I guess we humans always live in dilemmas. If not this then something else.

The crux of the matter is I am one step inside the door and one step outside. Only time will tell where I place my next step – in or out of the orbit.

In the pause in between I hobble along.

I also feel burdened by my possessions. I’m trying to declutter personal stuff like clothes and shoes etc.

  3. Beautifully reflected, GC!
Life often has us balancing between attachment and letting go.
Awareness of the pause itself is a kind of grace.
