This is in response to Sadje’s Weekly Photo Prompt #Whatdoyousee.

The interplay of shadow and light

Those hidden half truths…impish

Illusory images forever deluding

There….not there…

Again there

Oh!

The half Lights beckon tantalizingly

To a vague outline

Of tomorrow …my

Steps are

uncertain

Do I take the plunge ?

Or be in my

Comfort cocoon stilled

Forever and

Forever…?

In the post When You And I in response to Sadje’s Weekly Photo Prompt I had used a song like structure of poetry where the first line of the first stanza is repeated in the beginning and end of every stanza. Reading my poem, Reena had asked me whether the format had a definite name.

That made me think… What if I explain the format of cadence in my poetry posts as I keep experimenting with it. Also giving the option to other dear poets to try on.

I have used a new format here wherein the number of words reduces consecutively irrespective of punctuation. In the first line of the first stanza there are six words. In the second line 5 words so on and so forth till it tapers down to one word. The same format follows in the second and third stanzas but the number of words in the beginning of the stanza varies (they need not necessarily be the same in every stanza). However, the flow of thought remains intact without a pause or diversion.

Anyone interested is free to use this format. But do please ping back to this post or leave a link in the comment section so that I know how this format has been taken forward. Even if you don’t ping back or paste a link you can still use the format in your own way and/or develop it further.

I love this poem and the new poetic form that you’ve created Geeta. Especially because it uses word count and not syllable count. Love your message in this poem as well. Thanks for joining in.
