The Sign
Whistling I drove. It was Friday. Plans for the weekend.
Slowing down I took the turn across the red brick building fronting the high rise. There were three road signs – left and right turns and parking.
Suddenly, a hand thrust out.
A traffic cop in blue and white uniform.
I pulled over.
“You have broken the law, ma’am,” Stern admonition. Puckered brows. Artfully chosen words , “It’s no entry. You are fined”
Out the car, I looked around confused.
“But where’s the sign?”
“Oh that!” He waved disparagingly, ” Blown away by yesterday’s storm.”
With that he punched out the challaan.

Perhaps the ‘charlaan’ could be blown away in the storm too.

Dear Geeta,
That’s one unforgiving and obtuse cop.

Seriously ! Are you kidding me ? No sign, no fine. Oh you poor thing but what could you do – just pay the fine. Unfair. Thank you for sharing.
