What are you most excited about for the future?

I had never imagined  I would be writing a post lying down in the hospital. Yes. You have read it right.

Yesterday I had my third surgery. The surgeon was satisfied. I was shifted to the room thereafter. No Surgical ICU this time. Thank God! I will not go into the feeling of acute pain and discomfort as  I regained consciousness.

No! Wait ! There’s more to come. As you know one has to go empty stomach on the day of the operation and afterwards. Only two sips of water are given sparingly so as not to cause nausea and vomiting post anaesthesia. But this time the ordeal has not stopped there. I have been kept on observation for forty eight hours which means two more days of no eating ( three days in total). Only fluids through IV. This is to give the stomach and the part of it which has been operated on some rest and let it resume its functioning smoothly.

But the problem is the hunger pangs. The incessant growling sensations in the stomach. And the dream of various kinds of mouthwatering dishes dancing in front of my eyes all the time.

The coordinator of my surgeon (a very nice and helpful girl) met my elder sister on the ground floor and said,” Tell aunty the samosas are missing her.” The hospital cafe sells very nice samosas and each time I visit the doctor I have a plate. The cafe is so conveniently situated right across the OPD chamber.

Ooh! To think of that  crispy fried flour casing with the generous filling of well spiced potatoes inside! Oh! The tormenter who reminded me of those! Oh! When will I be having my next sumptuous meal!

That is what I am most excited about – the day the surgeon will allow me to have a bite…a teeny weeny bite… of that hot samosa with tangy chutney.

The rest I leave it to the All Mighty.

  4. I hope all went well with your surgery. Decades ago, I worked for an Indian/Pakistani Newspaper. They had a summer picnic and served samosas. It was the first time I tried them, and they were delicious! I know why you love them.

All samosas are not according to my taste. But this cafe sells samosas which are rightly balanced. Not too spicy, not too overcooked, not less so.

Wishing you a very speedy and complete recovery.

You got me in mood for samosas.

Around end of May/early June, i started working out and ‘watching my calories’. My BP went up by third week, when the doctor i visited for cold and acne just decided to test my BP. It was 200/190. The following week, i continued my calorie restricted life style. Almost fainted multiple times. And the winter in the opposite hemisphere was being cruel.

A week back. I decided to remove the calorie restriction, while continuing to work out.

Since then, I have defeated winter, it has crawled back to the floor level and no more dizzy spells.

Maybe, I will order samosas tonight. Maybe.

When you recover, soon, perhaps you could make samosas in my healthier way. As I love samosas, I use filo pastry, and because it is so fine, I bake them for a few minutes, instead of frying.

    Wishing you all the best,

That’s lovely. But I am not very good at baking. Perhaps I will learn.

In India we have several categories of food eaters. One who is a hardcore vegetarian who does not even take onion or garlic. They are known as satwik. Then there are those who are vegetarians and take onion and garlic. There are vegetarians who do not eat fish or meat but have eggs only. Then there are some who only have vegetarian meals on particular days of the week and months or a specific period. This is generally connected to religious beliefs.

Hard core non vegetarians also take only veg meals on religious occasions.

There are certain vegetarians who do not partake or cook non veg at home but have it outside.

I like both vegetarian and non vegetarian food. I give up on non veg if my gut does not allow. But during this recovery period I have to include it in my meal plan as per doctor’s advice.
