What part of your routine do you always try to skip if you can?

This is an easy to answer prompt.

The part of daily routine that I automatically or at times voluntarily skip is exercise. Well to be honest, it’s not exactly a part of my daily routine as there are long phases when this activity gets totally excluded till I pick up the thread with lots of efforts.

Reasons?

Many…

Time factor.

With the onset of winter days are shortening and nighs get lengthened which affect the sleep cycle. Waking up is usually delayed and morning rituals are cut short to leave home on time for office.

Well summers are exercise friendly as early sun rise helps getting up early and exercise fits in nicely into the schedule.

Mind factor

Exercises do not appeal to me as such though given my age and weight I should be more concerned. But after a while it is such a mechanical act unless you are trying out something new at intervals. I guess I can infuse some ounce of creativity into it. But except walking which lets considerable time for the mental faculty to wander into realms of imagination I do not find any scope of stimulant in engaging in repetitive postures and stretches.

Health factor

Given the fact that I frequently suffer from Myalgia, I believe, getting serious about my body is overdue. I also have a history of being accident prone which has reduced my muscle power. The only medication to tone up and strengthen the muscles is exercise. Yet my apathy towards this remedial measure is incurable. By nature I am not lazy but I am not sporty either. Although exercise for medical purpose does not fall under any sport, however, an outdoorsy and sporty person, according to me, will be more inclined to exercise than a person who loves to waste time in the dream world.

Actually the reasons given above are all rubbish. It’s imperative to get health conscious. Those who are addictive to exercise do not go by season. Apathetic like me make all kinds of excuses like mass appeal, creativity and stimulation. Why look for creativity in an activity which is as required as breathing in today’s jet-paced, stress-escalating lifestyle? If one is that creative then that aptitude should be deployed involuntarily to any activity whatsoever! If mechanical is boring then join a Salsa or Zumba class. No?

Well with all that sermon I wish I will not make any lame excuse to not do exercises tomorrow morning.

I am most hopeful that this confessional post will help me reconcile and get rid of my procrastinating attitude.

I am wishful of a rosy tomorrow whence I will dutifully pursue an ideal routine of work life balance.

I am dead sure I will forget all about my high hopes and lofty resolutions and languish in bed till I am left only an inch of a margin to finish the must dos and rush off to office. And it goes without saying the list will not include any fitness regime.

  1. Am the same way. Anything repetitive is undesirable, but sports are not really my thing, and yet one must stay fit. I can recommend: Eight Minutes in the Morning by Jorge Cruise. (Only this particular book, not his other ones!) It got me started using some 2 pound weights. You can listen to two songs in the time it takes to complete his exercises, and they are worth it because you can feel your energy levels rise thanks to the work-out for your muscles. Also there are some fun Indian dance dvds… ; )

  2. Another honest post. I was lucky to be able to run to work – a journey that had to be done anyway.

I think we can all relate to the exercise or fitness theme. I have just recently decided to take a short break from karate due to personal issues so i need another form of exercise. My job is both physically and mentally demanding but i need some exercise so have joined the gym about five weeks ago. I dont go every day, i go four days, have a days break and so on. I dont spend hours at the gym for the sake of saying i spent two hours there nor do i go on my phone every ten minutes like i have seen most do. I do upper body two days, lower two days, and spend half an hour to forty minutes each time. I can honestly say, i feel great after each session and look forward to the next. Along with exercise i watch what i eat and quantity, and in space of five weeks ive lost six kg, didnt even realise it, was so shocked but pleasantly surprised. Whether you are young, not so young, have little time or health issues, push yourself, you are the only one that can do it, everyone else will advise but to do, that is you. The fact that youve thought about is the first step, the next steps will be easier. You are doing it for yourself and your health. You can do it, i believe in you. As you know im new to blogging and have very few followers but i will still do my best. Mkdhillon.blogspot.com, please visit.
