How do you manage screen time for yourself?
🤪🤪🤪
Who manages screen nowadays?
Screen manages us.
To put off the morning alarm I have to wink at the mobile screen.
To see the get-up-from-bed time ( yes both are different) I again wink at the mobile.
Wink means one eye closed coz am still groggy.
Morning Pranayam…
That’s the only time I lose track of time …
So no screen
As a result unduly late…
Rush…rush…rush
Inbetween if I have to order something urgent, send an immediate sms, call my sister who by the way lives on the first floor again recourse to mobile.
One and a half hours later, am enroute to office. Oh yes! Before that if the mobile has to be put on recharge then checking it’s battery again needs a peek at the screen.
My commuting time is almost one and a half hours. If I am not snoring I pray. Some prayers are on my lips. For some I again refer to my mobile.
Prayers over there’s still time to check all the apps, social networking sites, read blogs/comments/reply to comments, read on kindle, go through informative videos, listen to a bit of music if worn out…..not all together but as per priority/time/mood in hand. In brief again dependency on screen.
In office. Ten to Six…tip tap tip tap on keyboard, gawking at the screen till the shoulders ache or a must visit to the ladies’ room.

That’s the time am off the hook, sorry, screen. those are the days I can’t interact with my co-bloggers.
My physician goes off screen when it’s too much for her to handle. I guess I too have to shut out the world at times. Actually that’s it screen time brings us close to the world. News. International affairs. Latest developments. Family. Friends. Without screen we are cut off. Strange! We never used to feel like that when we were children. Were we less informed and ignorant at that time? Now more up to date?
If someone knows more/is more aware than me it gives a kind of inferiority complex. Is it a psychological issue?
The other day we felt tremors in office. Lo! Before rushing down we all checked our mobiles for confirmation…epicentre…time…strength….

I am completely dependent on it. And therefore paranoid about it.

A brilliantly penned reflection on the pervasive role screens play in our lives. It’s almost like they manage us more than we manage them! 👏📱💻

Knowing that someone is making money from our reliance on devices, whether they actually help us become better at being good humans (or worse), i try to be as curmudgeonly as possible with respect to mine. I still make phone calls to all the people i care about. I use a battery powered alarm clock so that my phone can be off at night (saving a tiny bit of electricity). Don’t have a t.v. and would rather read a newspaper for news anyway. Our television news here just doesn’t interest me the way well written newspaper articles do. (I enjoy Himal Southasian, btw, and recommend it.) Good for you on the pranayama.

Thanks Ann. The battery powered alarm is a good suggestion. Reading the papers is one of my post retiral agenda. TV news is all sensationalism. I don’t think any machinery can make us good humans. We have to individually work at it. Thanks for your visit and thought provoking comment.
